Saudi Arabia Repels Five “Hostile” Drones Near U.S. Air Base
Defense Ministry spokesman Turki Al-Maliki confirmed the interceptions without disclosing casualty figures or the extent of any structural damage.
The fallout from the operation was not entirely contained, however. Saudi Arabia's Energy Ministry disclosed earlier that debris from the shootdown of two separate drones had inflicted limited damage on the Ras Tanura oil refinery, a critical facility situated on the kingdom's eastern coast.
The incident unfolded in the wake of a sweeping joint US-Israeli military assault on Iran that was launched Saturday, resulting in the deaths of several of Tehran's most senior officials — including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has since mounted a fierce retaliatory campaign, unleashing waves of drone and missile strikes against Israel and regional nations that host US military assets — with Saudi Arabia now firmly in the crosshairs of an escalating and increasingly unpredictable conflict.
