Over Two Thpusand Sites Struck in Joint Israel-US Operation in Iran

(MENAFN) Israel and the United States have targeted more than 2,000 sites across Iran since launching a joint military campaign early Saturday, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the operation.

The strikes began Saturday morning and involved extensive aerial missions. The Israeli military reported firing thousands of munitions and conducting over 700 sorties across Iranian territory. Targets included senior military and political figures—such as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—as well as air defense systems, ballistic missiles and launchers, intelligence facilities, and command centers.

An Israeli military official told the newspaper that the operation was carefully planned over several months, with intelligence gathering and target preparation taking thousands of hours. The campaign reportedly killed several top Iranian leaders, including Khamenei. In response, Tehran launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, US assets, and multiple Gulf countries.

This escalation follows a similar US-Israel strike on Iran in June last year, which led to a 12-day conflict before a ceasefire was reached.
