Israeli Cruise Ship Faces Pro-Palestinian Protests in Greece
(MENAFN) The Israeli cruise vessel Crown Iris encountered a hostile welcome from hundreds of demonstrators at the Port of Volos, Greece, on Wednesday.
A large group of pro-Palestinian supporters, primarily from leftist parties and organizations, trade unions, parliamentarians, and high-ranking members of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) assembled at the harbor.
Their aim was to block the passengers, reportedly including Israeli military personnel, from leaving the ship, according to a news agency.
Despite this, passengers were permitted to disembark and were escorted to tour buses under strict police supervision.
Protesters waved Palestinian flags and displayed placards condemning Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Chants such as “The murderers of Palestinian people and peoples of the Middle East are not welcome,” “Freedom to Palestine,” and “Victory to Palestine” echoed through the crowd.
In the past weeks, Crown Iris has encountered comparable demonstrations during its stops at several other Greek ports, including Syros, Rhodes, and Agios Nicholas in Crete.
Israel is increasingly condemned worldwide for its genocidal military campaign in Gaza, where nearly 61,600 people have been killed since October 2023.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide lawsuit at the International Court of Justice concerning its actions in the Gaza Strip.
