UFC Prepares Hosting Historic Fight in White House
(MENAFN) The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to break new ground as it prepares to stage a match on the White House lawn next July 4, according to an announcement made by UFC CEO Dana White during an appearance on CBS Mornings.
"It is definitely going to happen," White stated, highlighting that the spectacle will align with the country’s 250th Independence Day celebration.
He further revealed that he had discussed the concept with President Donald Trump on Monday evening, and additional discussions with Trump and Ivanka Trump are expected later this month to finalize the plans. As of now, no athletes have been chosen for the fight.
A person with insight into the event’s coordination affirmed that the White House is anticipating the match to proceed.
President Trump initially expressed his intention to host a UFC fight on the White House grounds last month during the opening of the year-long celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary.
According to The Wall Street Journal, White acknowledged that organizing the event would come with its own set of logistical issues, primarily due to the UFC’s usual large-scale venue requirements.
Space on the White House lawn would naturally restrict audience capacity.
Nonetheless, White stressed the deep symbolic value of the occasion, declaring, "Even if there’s only one seat at this thing.
This is so monumental and historical and just such a cool thing. All I care about is the Octagon on the lawn and the fight happening with the backdrop being the White House and the Washington Monument."
