Erdogan, Macron Discuss Gaza Crisis

(MENAFN) In a telephone conversation held on Sunday, Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the escalating humanitarian emergency in Gaza, along with the potential avenues for achieving peace in the broader region.

This exchange was detailed in an official communication released by the Turkish Presidency.

President Erdogan voiced serious concern about the worsening conditions in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent necessity for a coordinated global response.

He warned of the rapidly deteriorating situation, stating, "The humanitarian situation in Gaza is worsening," and emphasized that "the international community must take action toward an immediate solution."

Erdogan also reiterated his consistent appeal for a sustainable resolution to the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He underscored that "the conflict between Israel and Palestine must come to an end" and emphasized the importance of a two-state framework by stating, "a two-state solution is essential for lasting peace in the region."

The Turkish president took the opportunity to commend France's latest diplomatic move to officially recognize Palestine as an independent state.

He extended his congratulations to Macron, highlighting that this step had been positively received by pro-Palestinian advocates across the globe.

Macron had earlier declared, on Thursday, that France would formally recognize Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly session in September.

This move positions France as the first G7 nation—a coalition of the world's major developed economies—to take such a stand. Currently, 147 out of the 193 UN member nations officially acknowledge the statehood of Palestine.
