Kremlin Criticizes Kyiv, West
(MENAFN) The Kremlin on Sunday reproached both Kyiv and Western nations for dismissing all overtures for dialogue related to the enduring Russia-Ukraine conflict.
This statement came as the two sides engaged in a third round of revived peace negotiations held earlier this week in Türkiye.
Speaking to a Russian state-run news outlet, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented on the future of ties between Moscow and Kyiv following the resolution of the current military hostilities in Ukraine, describing the matter as “too theoretical a question right now.”
“First, we need to settle the problem, and we need to record the fulfillment of the tasks that the special military operation faced,” Peskov stated, referring to Russia’s characterization of the ongoing war in Ukraine, which is now in its fourth year.
Peskov emphasized that Moscow favors achieving the objectives of its “operation” via diplomatic efforts.
He argued that Russia is still pursuing this route “in conditions when these means have become impossible, when all proposals for dialogue have been rejected, both by Ukraine itself and by Westerners.”
He further remarked that a diplomatic path remains the “preferred” course for Moscow if such a transition in resolving the dispute becomes achievable.
“But first, we need to settle the situation, and then think about how relations will be built,” he concluded.
