Brazilian authority protests against US tariffs

(MENAFN) The Brazilian government has formally protested the United States' decision to impose 50 percent import tariffs on all Brazilian exports starting August 1, calling the move a threat to bilateral relations and economic stability.

In a letter addressed to U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Brazil expressed its "indignation" at the measure announced by President Donald Trump on July 9. The letter, signed by Vice President and Development Minister Geraldo Alckmin and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, emphasized the gravity of the situation.

According to a statement from Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, the government warned that the tariffs would severely harm key economic sectors in both countries and risk undermining a historically strong partnership.
