Zelenskyy Holds Talks with Trump, NATO Chief
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held individual discussions on Monday with US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
During the talks, he expressed appreciation for their unified efforts to supply Ukraine with Patriot missile systems and additional weaponry as part of a renewed transatlantic defense initiative.
Zelenskyy shared on X that his exchange with Trump was “very good,” emphasizing that they focused on actions “to stop the killings and establish a lasting and just peace.”
According to Zelenskyy, “President Trump shared details about his meeting with the NATO Secretary-General. It’s important that the Alliance countries are working to increase defense spending.”
He highlighted that both leaders examined strategies to bolster Ukraine’s protection from Russian offensives and agreed to synchronize forthcoming actions.
The Ukrainian president also spoke with NATO leader Mark Rutte, who provided insights into the Washington meeting with Trump and reaffirmed NATO’s collective commitment to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy acknowledged, “We appreciate the readiness to provide additional Patriots, and the US, Germany, and Norway are already working together on this.”
He indicated that the expected delivery of further military aid would assist in efforts to “protect lives of our people and repel Russian assaults.”
He again stressed that “Russia must be forced to stop the killings,” insisting that the conflict persists solely due to Russia and “Putin’s desire to drag it out.” Zelenskyy affirmed that peace could only be achieved “through strength.”
