Germany Promises Patriot Missiles for Ukraine
This announcement came after discussions with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during Pistorius’ visit to Washington.
The two officials convened at the Pentagon on Monday, shortly after President Donald Trump vowed to send additional American arms to Ukraine.
The support, he said, would be financed by European members of NATO.
Trump also warned Russia of “severe tariffs” if a peace settlement is not reached within 50 days.
“We agreed to discuss [the details] very, very quickly – quietly and quickly – at the working level,” Pistorius informed reporters after the talks.
He acknowledged that while there are still technical, financial, and logistical issues to resolve, they seem manageable.
According to Pistorius, the plan to send at least two Patriot systems to Ukraine could be confirmed “within days or weeks,” although the actual handover might take several months.
