Ukrainian PM Steps Down Amid Cabinet Reform
Posting a photo of his resignation letter on his Telegram channel, Shmyhal wrote: "Thank you to the entire team for your tireless work for our state!"
He confirmed that he had submitted the resignation to Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament), and extended his appreciation to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for placing trust in his leadership.
Reports from media outlets indicate that Shmyhal is poised to assume the position of Ukraine’s new defense minister. Meanwhile, current Defense Minister Rustem Umerov is reportedly set to become the next ambassador to the United States.
On July 14, President Zelenskyy held talks with First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, during which he nominated her to take over leadership of the government. He described the move as the start of a broader transformation within the executive branch, intended to bolster Kyiv’s overall capacity.
