Ghana’s Leader Calls for Reparations to Reclaim Africa’s Dignity

(MENAFN) On Monday, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama issued a powerful call for reparations from countries involved in the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the colonial exploitation of Africa, stressing the imperative to reclaim the continent’s full human dignity.

Speaking in his role as the African Union (AU) champion for reparatory justice for Africans and the African diaspora, Mahama delivered his progress report during the seventh Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the AU in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea’s capital.

He appealed to the global community to back Africa’s pursuit of justice and fairness on the world stage.

"Africa's demand for reparative justice is no longer a mere murmur. It is a unified demand grounded in historical truth, moral clarity, and our unwavering commitment to dignity," Mahama stated, as shared on his official social media.

Mahama further emphasized the need for international collaboration with the AU to build a fairer and more equitable future for African peoples, underscoring the deep connection between reparations, African identity, and dignity.

"We cannot speak of development without identity or speak of unity without acknowledging the era that has fractured our heritage," he asserted, highlighting the critical role of a united African movement supported by strong global partnerships.
