Jeffries Plans to Meet NYC Mayoral Candidate
(MENAFN) On Monday, US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries revealed his intention to hold a meeting with Zohran Mamdani, the recently selected Democratic contender for New York City's mayoral race, stating it would occur "at the end of the week."
"I'm scheduled to meet with the Democratic nominee at the end of the week back home in Brooklyn," Jeffries informed journalists during a briefing on Capitol Hill.
Although Jeffries, a representative from New York, has yet to formally support Mamdani, the latter secured victory in the Democratic primary for the city’s mayoral election not long ago.
Meanwhile, on the same day, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared he would press on with his bid for the city’s top office, now positioning himself as an independent contender.
The current mayor, Eric Adams—who previously aligned with the Democratic Party—is also seeking another term, similarly running as an independent candidate.
Jeffries noted that he hasn’t communicated with either Adams or Cuomo following the conclusion of the primary, and he currently has "no current plans to do so at this moment."
