Trump Says EU Will Pay for Patriot Missiles to Ukraine
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has revealed plans to provide additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, emphasizing that the European Union will cover the costs.
This declaration was made just a few days after the Pentagon reversed a prior decision to pause certain military support for Ukraine.
Speaking to journalists at Joint Base Andrews near Washington on Sunday evening, Trump stated, “We will send them Patriots, which they desperately need, because [Russian President Vladimir] Putin really surprised a lot of people. He talks nice and then bombs everybody in the evening. But there’s a little bit of a problem there. I don’t like it.”
His remarks highlighted concerns over recent Russian military actions and Ukraine’s urgent need for enhanced air defense.
However, the American leader did not specify if the commitment involved only the missile munitions or included the complete Patriot missile defense systems.
He mentioned that he had yet to settle on the exact quantity to be delivered, though he acknowledged Ukraine “would have some because they do need protection.”
Trump further stressed that the financial responsibility for the military aid would not fall on the United States.
“But the European Union is paying for them. We are not paying anything for them… This will be a business for us,” he declared, framing the deal as beneficial from a financial standpoint.
