UAE denounces Israel for extending sovereignty over occupied West Bank
The comments in question were made during a July 2 meeting between Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin and settlement figure Yossi Dagan. Levin reportedly stated, “The time for sovereignty has come.”
In an official response, the UAE’s Foreign Ministry denounced Levin’s statement, describing it as “a serious escalation and a blatant violation of resolutions on international legitimacy.”
The ministry voiced the UAE’s firm opposition to “all provocative statements and measures aimed at altering the legal status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.”
The statement also underscored the importance of reinforcing efforts toward peace across the region, urging international and regional actors to work toward reviving the Middle East peace process and halting actions that obstruct the realization of a sovereign Palestinian state.
Abu Dhabi reiterated its long-standing position in support of Palestinian rights and justice, affirming that the country remains “steadfast in its commitment to reinforcing peace and justice, and safeguarding the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people.”
As of late 2024, Palestinian sources estimate that roughly 770,000 Israeli settlers reside in the West Bank, spread across 180 settlements and 256 outposts—138 of which are categorized as agricultural or pastoral.
Israeli government figures indicate that settler violence has intensified in 2025, with 414 documented attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank during the first six months of the year—a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
