Russian SU-34 crashes while training flight, no casualties reported

(MENAFN) A Russian SU-34 medium-range fighter-bomber crashed on Tuesday during a training flight in Nizhny Novgorod Region. The Defense Ministry reported the landing gear malfunctioned, leading the crew to attempt repairs mid-flight before ejecting safely. The pilot and navigator diverted the plane away from populated areas; no ordnance was onboard, and no ground casualties or damage occurred.

A rescue team has been dispatched, and both crew members are confirmed alive.

The crash follows recent incidents involving Russian military aircraft: In April, a Tu-22M bomber crashed in Irkutsk, killing the pilot. Earlier, an SU-25 fighter jet was lost in Primorsky Region; the pilot ejected safely.
