Sudan’s Crisis Draws Warning from UN Rights Chief
"The recent fighting and grave risk of further aggravation in an already brutal and deadly conflict raise severe protection concerns, amid a pervasive culture of impunity for human rights violations," Turk stated.
He highlighted the “disastrous consequences” of the ongoing and intensifying bloodshed, especially in the North Darfur and Kordofan territories, pointing to numerous reports of harm to civilians, sexual assaults, kidnappings, and widespread theft.
The conflict, fought between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group, has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people, the displacement of more than 13 million individuals, and the widespread destruction of hospitals, residences, and commercial centers.
